Painting Symposium “Mark Rothko 2017”

From 11th to 22nd September the International Painting Symposium “Mark Rothko”, dedicated to the world-famous artist Mark Rothko, born in Daugavpils, will take place in Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center.

The International Painting Symposium “Mark Rothko 2017” will be held in Daugavpils for the thirteenth time. The symposium has traditionally attracted widespread interest from painters around the world, as evidenced by the large number of applications submitted. The International Jury Commission of 98 artists selected 10 artists from 10 countries worldwide for this symposium.

In this year’s symposium will participate Edda Jachens (Germany), Graham Fletcher (New Zealand), Anthony White (Australia / France), Katarina Balunova (Slovakia), Evrom Özeskici (Turkey), Bernier Carol (Canada), Teona Chanishvili (Georgia), Erling Stuart Rohde (Norway), Ramūnas Čeponis (Lithuania) and Madara Neikena (Latvia).

Within the traditional framework of symposium artists’ portfolio presentations, lectures and master classes will be held. The result of the symposium will be seen at the final exhibition, paintings of which will remain in the center of Rothko as part of the painting collection.

The symposium is always held in September, and its closing date has coincided with the birth of Mark Rothko on September 25th. But this year the symposium will end sooner. The symposium exhibition, along with other Autumn season exhibitions, will be opened in Daugavpils Mark Rotko Art Center on September 22nd at 16:00.
