Ceramic symposium starts with an exhibition at the 4METRES Gallery

From Friday, 15 July, the inaugural exhibition of the CERAMIC LABORATORY symposium is available at the 4METRES Gallery in the courtyard of 8 Hospitāļa Street Daugavpils.

Daugavpils receives ceramicists from seven countries who have come to participate at the 10th International CERAMIC LABORATORY Symposium organised by the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics in cooperation with the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.

Over the years, the symposium has acquired several distinct traditions. Besides the closing exhibition featuring new artworks made at the symposium, the organisers usually launch the two week-long creative forum with an inaugural exhibition, showing earlier artworks the participants made in their private studios and workshops. In a sense, this inaugural show is a visual presentation, introducing each artist’s individual style and technique already at the start of the symposium fortnight.

4METRES Gallery is an open-air glass cabinet in Daugavpils fortress near the Latvian Centre of Contemporary Ceramics. Its inviting location out of doors means the symposium exhibition will be available round the clock all summer free of charge.

Exhibition participants: Rasa Justaitė Gecevičienė (Lithuania), Andrii Ilinskiy (Ukraine), Ingrid Allik (Estonia), Alicja Buławka Fankidejska (Poland), Dmitrij Buławka Fankidejski (Poland), Elīna Titāne (Latvia), Hanna Miadzvedzeva (Latvia), Delia Maxim (Romania), Lauris Krauze (Latvia), Una Gura (Latvia), Lilija Zeiļa (Latvia), Nellija Dzalba (Latvia), Ilona Abdulajeva (Latvia).

This year, the symposium is part of a bigger contemporary ceramics festival whose programme includes public talks, master classes, kiln firings and a fire sculpture show.

The festival programme will be available online, www.rothkocenter.com, from 19 July 2022.

Admission to the events is free of charge.
