1st LATVIA INTERNATIONAL CERAMICS BIENNALE

Today, on June 16, the exhibition „Peteris Martinsons. Porcelain Drawings” has been opened in Daugavpils Park Hotel Latgola to commemorate Peteris Martinsons, the greatest Latvian ceramist, and to introduce the events of the 1st Latvia International Ceramics Biennale.

The 1st Latvia International Ceramics Biennale will begin with July 15, 2016, with an opening of ‘Martinsons Award’ exhibition and the exhibition of Daugavpils ceramists ‘Welcome to Daugavpils’ at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre. 298 outstanding applications from artists form 44 countries had been received for the ‘MARTINSONS AWARD’ exhibition. The International Jury represented by Elaine O. Henry (USA), Bernd Pfannkuche (Germany), Sirin Kocak Ozeskici (Turkey), Jane Jermyn (Ireland), Simcha Even-Chen (Israel), Ilona Romule (Latvia), and Valentins Petjko (Latvia) has selected 110 artworks by International artists and 26 artworks by National artists to participate in the exhibitions (SELECTED ARTISTS). After the opening ceremony, ‘The White Cube’, a 24-hour performance by Israeli artists Roy Maayan and Erez Maayan will start in front of the Art Centre.

GEORGIAN WINE VESSEL Mastercourse by Georgi Pachkoria July 24-30, 2016, Daugavpils, Latvia

Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre in cooperation with Daugavpils Clay Art Centre invite ceramic artists and students to apply for Georgian Wine Vessel Mastercourse by Georgian artist Georgi Pachkoria which will take place in Ceramic Laboratory at Daugavpils fortress from July 24 till July 30, 2016, within frames of Latvia International Ceramics Biennale.

During the Mastercourse ceramic artists and students will be offered to learn traditional and non-traditional methods of modeling Georgian wine vessels, to get acquainted with Georgian winery and cultural traditions and history, as well as to create and to fire their own artworks under the guidance of Georgi Pachkoria, the Georgian ceramic artist. The final exhibition will be arranged by the end of the Mastercourse.

THE INTERNATIONAL JURY HAS SELECTED PARTICIPANTS FOR LATVIA INTERNATIONAL CERAMICS BIENNALE

In July 2016, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will hold the 1st edition of the Latvia International Ceramics Biennale. More than 10 contemporary ceramics exhibitions, as well as master-classes and performances by National and International artists will be organized during the event. The 9th International Scientific Conference PERSON.COLOR.NATURE.MUSIC, as well as International Ceramic Art Symposium and the International Festival of Experimental Firing Techniques will be held in the framework of the Biennale. NEW EXHIBITION SEASON AND NEW WORKS OF MARK ROTHKO IN DAUGAVPILS

Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre is thrilled to announce a very special event – an arrival of much-awaited new original works of Mark Rothko which will be presented for all art lovers as from 24 April 2016!

The originals of the world-famous painter as well as a number of domestic and international exhibitions will be on display to mark the third anniversary of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.

As the first three-year period featuring works of the world famous abstract expressionist Mark Rothko deposited from the collection of Kate Rothko Prizel and Christopher Rothko is approaching the end, currently displayed Rothko’s paintings will be on view only until the 10th of April. ART NIGHT IN DAUGAVPILS FORTRESS

On June 4 in the framework of Daugavpils city festival for the first time the Art Night “Daugavpils is Art” will be organised in Daugavpils Fortress. During the Art Night a series of art activities from 22:00 to 1:00 will take place in Daugavpils Fortress. In order to see the magic and secrets of the Art Night each event participant from 21:30 will receive a special Daugavpils night flashlight and events map of the Art Night in Rothko Centre. The Art Night “Daugavpils is Art” is organised by Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.

Edit OPEN CALL FOR PARTICIPATION IN ART SYMPOSIUMS IN 2016

New Exposition in the Rothko Research Hall

From December 8, 2015 in the Research Hall (Sector A) of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will be displayed new exposition devoted to the artist Mark Rothko. The new exposition will replace the previously shown exhibition “ROTHKO MEMORIAL PORTFOLIO” which consisted of 13 renowned British artists’ graphic artwork collection.

INTERNATIONAL CERAMIC ART SYMPOSIUM CERAMIC LABORATORY

From August 17 to 30, the International Ceramic Art Symposium CERAMIC LABORATORY will be held in Daugavpils, with 18 artists from Latvia, Ukraine, Rumania, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Spain Finland, and Poland participating in it. It is the third time already that Daugavpils Mark Rothko Centre and the society “Daugavpils Clay Art Centre” assemble prominent contemporary art artists to mutually share their experience and create unique art works during the time of these two weeks.
